HST 2015 Update #1 - Beach Party
Hello from Torrance, California!
Left DC yesterday morning in chilling rain with a forecast of gloom and blech for a week.
Woke up this morning to 82F/28C, sea breezes coming in the balcony, shiny blue skies, and a beach party to kick off Halloween Swing Thing 2015.
We're in a gorgeous Marriott, across the street from Del Amo Fashion Center, a brand new luxury shopping mall, one of the largest in the United States.
And! We're 2 miles from Redondo Beach! Where we will be partying all afternoon - swimming, frisbees, volleyball - we've been asked to bring guitars, harmonicas, and other instruments to jam on the beach.
I apologize for how much fun this sounds. Maybe it will be a horrible weekend and I won't feel like such a skite for telling you about it.
Saturday night you might want to watch the livestream for the famous, infamous, Monster's Ball.
This is no ordinary costume party. We're the west coast swing community after all, we don't mess around.
You tell 500 performing artist divas to compete for attention - and you get 500 outrageous creative masterpieces straining to outdo each other, steal the spotlight, and WIN.
It's like the Republican presidential debates if the candidates were Darth Vader, a zombie with a bloody zipper mouth, a waddling human beach ball, a talking taco, a Delorean Time Machine, and a bright green plastic toy soldier frozen in readiness to shoot opponents till the end of time.
You can watch the livestream all weekend at global dance tv. The link is not active yet ... I'll provide it next update.
I'm off to Redondo Beach! It's so sunny and perfect here it's making me mad.
